Total keyboard navigation

March 6th, 2008

So we’ve done something really cool, and we’d love for you to give it a whirl.

“Total keyboard navigation.”

What does it mean? It means that anyone arriving at a typical Add to Any page (like this one) can use the keyboard to share, save or subscribe. No mouse needed!

Start typing the name of a service you’d like to add to, and you’ll see that the list begins to hide services that don’t match.

What’s cooler is that you can navigate the list using the arrow keys on your keyboard. Just hit <enter> once, then start moving in any direction.

What’s even cooler is that you only have to hit <enter> once more to go add to the selected service.

Not to be outdone, both Add to Any widgets received the same total keyboard goodness as the landing pages.

Hover the mouse over one of Add to Any’s Bookmark or Subscribe buttons to bring up the menu, and type the name of any service. No clicks required!

The Redesign

February 26th, 2008

We’ve given Add to Any a makeover! It’s the same simple, fast-loading interface, but what you see now is much more pleasing to the eye.

Number one on the design list was ditching all those ‘chicklets’ we collected over the years for a more unified look with ‘favicons’ — the small icons you tend to see in your address bar. They’re more or less little site-specific trademarks. Fortunately, these favicons are all the same size, and we can use them to enhance the aesthetic of our main ‘GUI’ — the huge lists of services.

Add to Any's list of services

Number one-point-one on the list was applying the same icons to the rollover/drop-down menus that accompany most new Bookmark and Subscribe buttons. If your buttons already have a rollover/drop-down menu, no code update is necessary to get the new icons — just hit Reload and you should see the new icons.

Number two was to give addtoany.com a little flair. Round some corners, adjust some colors, increase some spacing, add a touch of that magic Add to Any dust, and we were done. Keep it simple.

In this major redesign (hey, it’s major for us!) you might also notice some new great features. More are on their way, and we’ll talk more about all the new features soon in this space.

Let us know what you think about the redesign. Thanks!

Cleaning house — some services removed

November 2nd, 2007

So we just finished performing our regular evaluation to check the status of each service on Add to Any. As it turns out, we removed just under ten services from our index.

Some of the discontinued services were great, others didn’t stand a chance in this massively crowded arena.

One service that stood out was Newshutch. These guys had an awesome feed reader, and a pretty dedicated userbase. Semi-sadly, they’re shutting down the service in hopes to move on to greener pastures.

We wish ’em all the best. 🙂
