Optimized to load 3x faster!

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Good news!

If you’re loading two or more Subscribe or Bookmark buttons on one page, the load time is about 3x faster in the latest release.

To achieve the faster load times, all Add to Any widgets now use just one menu instance per page, as opposed to loading a menu for each button per page as before.  This means that widgets remain in a consistent state from button to button, improving usability. So a search for “Digg” in one Bookmark widget will keep Digg displayed in all the other Bookmark widgets on a page.

Major shoutout to Jeff Levinsky for the browser benchmarks and feedback. Thanks, Jeff!

Wordpress plug-ins released: The drop-down treatment!

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

If you’re a Wordpress user, this is big. This, like, totally applies to you.

Two big releases are hot from of the oven. Both the Subscribe button and Bookmark button received the drop-down treatment tonight (actually, this very early morning!).

Beyond the new drop-down menu, the Wordpress plugins are also receiving the same benefits as our general platform widgets:

Listed before each screenshot is what you Wordpress people really want: the download link. When you get a chance, let us know what you think.

Total keyboard navigation

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

So we’ve done something really cool, and we’d love for you to give it a whirl.

“Total keyboard navigation.”

What does it mean? It means that anyone arriving at a typical Add to Any page (like this one) can use the keyboard to share, save or subscribe. No mouse needed!

Start typing the name of a service you’d like to add to, and you’ll see that the list begins to hide services that don’t match.

What’s cooler is that you can navigate the list using the arrow keys on your keyboard. Just hit <enter> once, then start moving in any direction.

What’s even cooler is that you only have to hit <enter> once more to go add to the selected service.

Not to be outdone, both Add to Any widgets received the same total keyboard goodness as the landing pages.

Hover the mouse over one of Add to Any’s Bookmark or Subscribe buttons to bring up the menu, and type the name of any service. No clicks required!
